Looking to try out sushi for the first time but scared of the unknowns? Here are Tara’s Team’s Top 5 Tips for sushi first-timers.
Overcome Your Fear: Scared of raw fish? Good news….not all sushi is raw! If you are unsure what to order speak with your server (waitron) or chef (itamae) on what would be a good pick for a beginner.
Wasabi?? For beginners we highly recommend that you ease into the Wasabi. This condiment is as feisty as its florescent green color so make sure to take tiny doses before diving in!
Cleanse the Palate: Pickled Ginger is usually served with all sushi dishes and should be used to cleanse your palate in between sushi dishes.
Be Safe: To avoid foodborne illness…never, ever, EVER eat purple Tuna. Tuna should be bright red; no exceptions.
Have Fun: Relax; chopsticks are optional. Although Sashimi should be eaten with chopsticks it is not considered rude to consume nigiri or maki sushi without utensils. So sit back, relax and enjoy the experience!
